Open Loop control system:

 

This doesn't have feedback. The input can be either analog or digital.

 

Eg:

Open Loop cruise control:

     It is used to control the speed of the car. For eg: when the car is going at 60 kmph and you press cruise control, you need not press the accelerator. The car goes at constant 60 kmph until you stop it.

     The drawback in open loop type is that it constantly goes at that speed even when somebody crosses/obstructs your car. This leads to accidents.

Closed Loop control system:

 

   This system has feedback mechanism.

   This adjusts automatically based on feedback.

 

Eg:

Based on heat.

Adaptive cruise control. This uses radar and analyses feedback. The car moves based on the speed of car before us.      Closed loop system helps in better automation. They are widely used in industry
 because they help in cutting costs.
